Return & Refund Policy

Nothing in this policy affects your statutory rights under applicable consumer protection laws, including the EU Consumer Rights Directive (2011/83/EU), the UK Consumer Rights Act 2015 and Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013, the Australian Consumer Law, or equivalent legislation in your jurisdiction.

This Return & Refund Policy forms part of Tesshin's Terms of Service. By placing an order with Tesshin, you confirm that you have read, understood, and agreed to this policy.


1. Our Quality Commitment

Every Tesshin product undergoes multiple stages of quality inspection before shipment, including manual fabric review, panel-by-panel assessment, and a final pre-packaging check. We have rigorous standards and stand behind the quality of what we make.

Because of our quality control process, and because our gear is designed for close-contact, high-performance use, returns are only accepted in the specific circumstances set out in this policy. We do not offer open returns or exchanges as a general convenience.


2. General Policy — Customers Outside the EU, UK & Australia

For customers located outside the European Union, United Kingdom, and Australia, the following applies:

All sales are final. Tesshin does not accept returns, exchanges, or issue refunds for:

  • Incorrect size selection
  • Change of mind
  • Personal preference or dissatisfaction with fit, feel, or aesthetics
  • Colourway or design preferences
  • Items purchased as gifts
  • Wear, damage, or deterioration after delivery
  • Items that have been worn, washed, trained in, or used in any way

The only exception to this general policy is verified manufacturing defects, which are addressed in Section 5.

We strongly encourage customers in all regions to review our size charts carefully, consult our fit guides, and contact us at tesshin.bjj@gmail.com before placing an order if they have any questions about sizing, materials, or fit.


3. Right of Withdrawal — EU & UK Customers

If you are a consumer located in a European Union member state or the United Kingdom, you have the right to withdraw from your purchase within 14 calendar days of the date on which you (or a person you designate) receive the goods, without giving any reason.

Conditions for withdrawal

To exercise your right of withdrawal, the following conditions must be met:

  1. Timeframe: You must notify Tesshin of your decision to withdraw within 14 calendar days of receiving your order.
  2. Condition: Goods must be returned unused, unworn, unwashed, with all original tags attached, and in their original packaging in a condition suitable for resale. Goods that have been handled beyond what is necessary to assess their nature, characteristics, and fit (equivalent to what would be permitted in a physical store) will be subject to a deduction from the refund to reflect their diminished value. Goods that have been worn, trained in, or washed are not eligible for withdrawal.
  3. Return shipping: You are responsible for the cost of returning goods to Tesshin. Return shipping costs are not reimbursed. We recommend using a tracked shipping service, as Tesshin is not responsible for returned items lost in transit.

What Tesshin will refund

Upon receipt and inspection of the returned goods:

  • The product price will be refunded in full (subject to any deduction for diminished value).
  • Tesshin will refund the standard shipping cost paid at checkout. If you selected an expedited or premium shipping option, only the cost of standard shipping will be refunded; the difference is non-refundable.
  • Refunds will be processed within 14 days of Tesshin receiving the returned goods or receiving proof of return shipment (whichever is earlier).
  • Refunds are issued via the original payment method.

How to exercise your right of withdrawal

To withdraw from your purchase, please notify us in writing within 14 days of receiving your order using one of the following methods:

Please include your name, order number, and the item(s) you wish to return. You may use the model withdrawal form provided in Appendix A of this policy, though use of that form is not required.

You must return the goods to Tesshin within 14 days of notifying us of your withdrawal. We will provide a return address upon receipt of your withdrawal notice.


4. Right of Withdrawal — Australian Customers

For customers located in Australia, your consumer rights are governed by the Australian Consumer Law (ACL). Tesshin does not offer change-of-mind returns beyond what is required under the ACL. Your rights in respect of goods that fail to meet a consumer guarantee are set out in Section 5 and Section 10.


5. Manufacturing Defects & Warranty

What constitutes a manufacturing defect

A manufacturing defect is a fault that was present in the product at the time of delivery and that arises from the manufacturing process. Examples include:

  • Seam or stitching failure not caused by training use or mishandling
  • Fabric defects (holes, runs, or irregularities) present at delivery
  • Incorrect item shipped (wrong product, size, or colourway)
  • Missing components that were listed as included

The following are not manufacturing defects and are not covered under this section:

  • Normal wear and tear from training, competition, or repeated use
  • Fabric pilling resulting from friction during normal use
  • Colour fading from UV exposure, washing, or sweat
  • Damage caused by incorrect washing, bleaching, tumble drying, or ironing
  • Tears, abrasions, or damage caused by training equipment, mats, or contact
  • Odour retention or staining following use
  • Damage caused by chemical exposure (pool chlorine, topical products, etc.)

How to report a defect

Defect claims should be submitted within 30 days of delivery by contacting Tesshin at tesshin.bjj@gmail.com with the following:

  • Your order number
  • A clear description of the defect
  • Photographs or video showing the defect in detail
  • A photograph showing the product label and tags

Tesshin acknowledges that statutory guarantee and warranty periods under EU, UK, and Australian law extend beyond 30 days (see Section 10). Customers in those jurisdictions who identify a defect after 30 days may still submit a claim under applicable statutory rights; however, the evidentiary requirements set out above remain applicable, and the burden of demonstrating that the defect was present at the time of delivery may shift to the customer depending on the applicable jurisdiction and time elapsed.

Resolution process

Upon receipt of a verified defect claim, Tesshin will offer resolution in the following order of preference:

  1. Replacement of the defective item with an equivalent product, subject to availability
  2. Repair, where feasible
  3. Refund, where replacement or repair is not possible or is not provided within a reasonable time

For EU and UK customers: if Tesshin is unable to provide a replacement or repair within a reasonable timeframe, or if the same defect recurs, you may be entitled to a full or partial refund under applicable law.

For Australian customers: for goods with a major failure as defined under the ACL, you may choose a full refund, replacement, or, where you keep the goods, compensation for the reduction in value.

Resolution is conditional on return of the defective item to Tesshin where reasonably required. Tesshin will cover reasonable return shipping costs for confirmed manufacturing defects.


6. Sizing & Fit

Tesshin provides detailed size charts and fit guidance on every product page. We strongly encourage all customers to:

  • Review the size chart before purchasing
  • Measure themselves accurately using the guidance provided
  • Consider personal preferences (compression-fit vs. relaxed-fit)
  • Contact us at tesshin.bjj@gmail.com before ordering if unsure

For customers outside the EU and UK: Tesshin does not accept returns or exchanges for incorrect size selection. Size selection is the customer's sole responsibility. All sales are final for non-defective goods.

For EU and UK customers: You may exercise your 14-day right of withdrawal for incorrect size purchases, subject to the conditions in Section 3 (unused, unworn, in original condition, customer bears return shipping).


7. Order Cancellations & Modifications

Cancellations

Orders enter processing immediately upon placement. Tesshin cannot guarantee cancellation requests; however, if you contact us at tesshin.bjj@gmail.com within 1 hour of placing your order, we will make reasonable efforts to cancel it before dispatch.

Once an order has been dispatched, it cannot be cancelled. At that point, EU and UK customers may exercise their right of withdrawal as described in Section 3 upon receiving the goods.

Modifications

Order modifications (including size, colourway, or delivery address changes) are not guaranteed once an order is placed. Please contact us as soon as possible at tesshin.bjj@gmail.com if a modification is required. We will attempt to accommodate requests received before processing begins.


8. Items Not Eligible for Return or Refund

The following are not eligible for return, exchange, or refund under any circumstances, to the fullest extent permitted by law:

  • Items that have been worn, trained in, washed, or used in any way
  • Items with tags removed
  • Items not in their original packaging
  • Items reported more than 30 days after delivery (except where statutory rights provide a longer period — see Section 10)
  • Damage caused by improper care (failure to follow garment care instructions)
  • Damage caused by training equipment, mat abrasion, or contact sport
  • Normal wear and tear arising from use
  • Items purchased during final sale or clearance promotions (where marked as non-returnable at point of sale)
  • Custom or personalised items made to the customer's specification

9. Refund Processing

Approved refunds are processed as follows:

  • Refunds are issued to the original payment method only
  • Processing time is up to 14 business days from approval, depending on your payment provider
  • Original shipping fees are non-refundable unless the return is due to a confirmed manufacturing defect or Tesshin error
  • Tesshin is not responsible for delays caused by banks or payment processors

10. Statutory Rights

Nothing in this policy excludes, restricts, or modifies any right or remedy you may have under applicable mandatory consumer protection law.

European Union: EU consumers have a 14-day right of withdrawal under the Consumer Rights Directive (2011/83/EU) and a minimum two-year legal guarantee against non-conforming goods. During the first 12 months following delivery, any lack of conformity is presumed to have existed at the time of delivery unless Tesshin proves otherwise.

United Kingdom: UK consumers have a 14-day right of withdrawal under the Consumer Contracts (Information, Cancellation and Additional Charges) Regulations 2013, and a 30-day right to reject non-conforming goods under the Consumer Rights Act 2015.

Australia: Australian consumers have rights under the Australian Consumer Law that cannot be excluded, restricted, or modified. These include consumer guarantees that goods are of acceptable quality, fit for disclosed purpose, and match any description or sample provided. This policy does not limit any right you have under the ACL.

Other jurisdictions: Consumer protection laws in your jurisdiction may provide additional rights. Where any provision of this policy conflicts with mandatory law applicable in your jurisdiction, that provision is to be read down or severed to the extent necessary.

11. Governing Law & Jurisdiction

This Return & Refund Policy is governed by the laws of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region. Subject to any mandatory consumer protection laws applicable in your jurisdiction, any disputes arising from this policy or your purchase from Tesshin shall be submitted to the courts of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region.

13. Changes to This Policy

Tesshin reserves the right to update this Return & Refund Policy at any time. Changes take effect immediately upon publication on the Tesshin website. Orders placed before a policy change is published are governed by the policy in effect at the time of purchase.


Appendix A — Model Withdrawal Form (EU & UK Customers)

This form is for use by EU and UK customers wishing to withdraw from a Tesshin purchase. Completion of this form is not required; a written notice to tesshin.bjj@gmail.com within 14 days of delivery is sufficient.
